Hosted SharePoint - How Does It Work
SharePoint is a simple web based portal system, built to allow users to quickly built a file share, document share or any other team space to share information.
The sharepoint system as well as all your data are stored in our protected data centres and accesible anywhere there is an internet connection, once the user has logged in with a username and password.
Your Own User Managed Portal
When SharePoint is enabled, a full-featured website is instantly made available. After members are added to this site, they can add, edit, and delete information using their web browsers. Automatic hyperlink management allows the easy maintainance of links to new material, while templates protect the overall navigational structure, individual page layouts, and design elements.
Preformatted forms allow members to contribute to the team website simply by filling out lists. Forms are available for announcements, events, contacts, tasks, surveys, discussions, and links. SharePoint Services 2.0 also make it easy to create custom lists by building on existing forms or by creating new ones.
SharePoint is also fully compatible with FrontPage. This allows SharePoint pages to have themes, borders, photo galleries, etc. while still retaining the functionality of SharePoint.

Document Library
Besides the various forms available, SharePoint also has a Document Library where all work can be stored in a single location. These documents can be uploaded to the library through a web browser. When going through the Document Library, the search for specific documents is made easier with the use of a powerful text-based search as well as a familiar folder view.
Subscriptions and Notifications
SharePoint team members can setup subscriptions and notifications so that they are alerted to website changes. They can also share ideas through inline document discussions that make it easy to collaborate on specific documents without altering the originals. Discussion boards and surveys are also useful ways of sharing ideas.
Permissions
After a SharePoint-based website has been set up, a simple e-mail invitation serves to register team members to the site. Different permission levels can be assigned to each member, depending on their role. Web-based administration also allows user accounts to be easily managed through a browser. Date, time, and author stamping makes it easy to track member participation.
